Elon Musk’s X Corp and SpaceXAI drop antitrust lawsuit against Apple

Elon Musk’s X Corp and SpaceXAI have withdrawn their antitrust claims against Apple, according to a court filing reported by Al Jazeera. The move ends their challenge against the iPhone maker, which had accused Apple of favoring OpenAI’s ChatGPT over rival chatbots in the fast-growing generative AI market.

The lawsuit was originally filed in August 2025 in federal court in Fort Worth, Texas. It argued that Apple and OpenAI had effectively teamed up in ways that helped ChatGPT become the only generative AI chatbot integrated into Apple’s iPhone operating system. The complaint said that access to features such as Siri, Writing Tools and the iPhone camera gave ChatGPT an advantage, while competing apps were allegedly hindered in Apple’s App Store through delayed reviews and other treatment.

According to the report, the latest filing does not explain why X Corp and SpaceXAI dropped Apple from the case, and it does not say whether there was any settlement. Apple and OpenAI had previously sought dismissal, but a federal judge allowed the case to continue in November. X Corp and SpaceXAI said they will keep pursuing claims against OpenAI, which remains a defendant. The case is part of a wider legal and strategic conflict involving Musk, OpenAI and the distribution of AI tools on major consumer platforms.
