EC Begins Display of Voters’ Register Ahead of Adjumani West By-Election

What the report says
The Electoral Commission has started displaying the national voters’ register in Adjumani West Constituency as it prepares for the parliamentary by-election set for September 17, according to Nile Post. The exercise began on Monday, August 17, 2026, and is being carried out at all 114 polling stations in the constituency, with the display period scheduled to end on August 26.
Commission spokesperson Julius Mucunguzi said the public display is meant to help voters confirm their details and flag any errors or ineligible entries on the register. He urged residents to check for problems such as underage names, foreigners or other people who should not appear on the roll. The current display follows an earlier register update carried out after the Commission issued the by-election roadmap on August 3.
Nile Post reports that the update allowed new eligible voters to register and enabled transfers between polling stations. Mucunguzi said the verification exercise is an important step before nominations, helping the Commission build a credible voters’ register. The Adjumani West seat became vacant after the death of Gen. (Rtd) Moses Ali on July 18, 2026. Ali had been re-elected earlier in the year and sworn into the 12th Parliament in May.
Under the roadmap, candidate nominations are due on September 7 and 8, followed by campaigning and polling on September 17. The Commission also called on prospective candidates and political parties to complete nomination requirements and follow electoral rules, while maintaining peace during the process.
