EACOP gives Hoima community Mama Kit boost, starts constructing new maternal wing

Officials from the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) have inspected work on a new maternal and child healthcare wing at Mbarara Health Centre II in Kitoba Sub-County, Hoima District, according to The Independent Uganda. The company also donated 200 Mama kits as part of the same community health initiative.

The report says the facility serves more than 10,000 people across 16 villages, but patients have faced major access barriers because the nearest Health Centre III is more than 20 kilometers away and the road network is limited. EACOP said the new wing is being developed with Hoima District local government and is intended to meet Ministry of Health guidelines, with the longer-term goal of helping the centre move toward Health Centre III status.

EACOP Managing Director Guillaume Dulout described the project as a step toward safer childbirth and better maternal care for families in the area. The company’s HR and Corporate Affairs Director, Eileen Baguma, said the Mama kits are meant to support mothers and newborns at delivery. The facility in-charge, Aweko Grace, welcomed the assistance and said it would improve maternal services.

The project fits within EACOP’s broader community health and safety investment program. More broadly, such upgrades can matter in rural areas where distance and limited clinical capacity often make maternal care harder to reach, although The Independent Uganda’s report focuses on this specific Hoima site.
