Dr Muvawala launches IASP Africa conference due October

The Independent Uganda reported that the International Association for Strategy Professionals (IASP) Uganda Chapter and the National Planning Authority have launched the IASP Africa Regional Conference 2026 in Kampala. The event is scheduled for 29–30 October 2026 at Skyz Hotel Naguru under the theme, “Unlocking Strategy Excellence for Africa’s Transformation.”

According to the report, Dr Joseph Muvawala, executive director of the National Planning Authority, launched the conference alongside Innocent Agaba, president of the IASP Uganda Chapter. The organisers say the gathering will bring together strategy practitioners, policymakers, business executives, academics and development actors from Africa and beyond to discuss how stronger strategy design and implementation can support socio-economic transformation.

The Independent said Muvawala linked the conference to Uganda’s long-term growth ambitions, arguing that faster growth is needed to create the resources and opportunities required for inclusive development. He said this would require more deliberate planning, disciplined implementation and deeper regional cooperation. Agaba said the main challenge for many African institutions is not the lack of plans, but the difficulty of consistently putting those plans into practice and measuring results.

The programme is expected to focus on six areas: accelerated and inclusive growth, regional integration through the African Continental Free Trade Area, leadership and talent development, strategy execution, strategic foresight, and the role of technology and artificial intelligence. The launch matters because it positions Uganda as host of a regional forum aimed at improving public, private and development-sector performance through professional strategy practice. Registration for the conference is open, according to the organisers cited in the report.
