Don Julio Brings Mexican Flair to Kampala as It Celebrates World Tequila Day

Nile Post reported that Don Julio marked World Tequila Day in Kampala with a Mexican-themed event at Mediterraneo Restaurant and Lounge in Kololo on Sunday. The gathering, branded the Tequila Sundowner, brought together tequila consumers, music fans and members of the city’s social scene for an event built around food, music, cocktail culture and the brand’s heritage.

According to the report, guests wore Mexican-inspired outfits including sombreros and boots, while the venue was styled to reflect the theme. A central activity was the Don Julio trolley experience, led by Reserve Ambassador Steve Baguma, who introduced attendees to the brand’s background and guided them through making tequila cocktails. Participants used Don Julio Blanco along with citrus, fruit and agave flavours to prepare drinks such as Margaritas and Palomas.

The entertainment programme included Latin Roots band, with saxophonist Daniel Oquiel drawing audience participation during performances. Jessica Abelo of Latin Roots told Nile Post the event showed Ugandan appreciation for Latin culture and linked tequila and music as shared forms of celebration. Later in the evening, DJ Dash, DJ City Girl and producer-DJ duo 2woBunnies performed sets spanning electronic dance music, Amapiano, R&B, reggae and Afro-electronic sounds.

Judie Nandekya, Senior Brand Manager for Tequila and Rum East Africa, said the celebration was intended to introduce consumers to tequila’s traditions, craftsmanship and versatility while promoting responsible enjoyment. The report framed the Kampala event as part of World Tequila Day celebrations, combining brand promotion with cultural-themed entertainment and hospitality.
