Fox News reported that newly obtained 911 dispatch audio captured emergency crews responding to a smoke-filled home in Grand Haven Township, Michigan, where eight members of the Karolkiewicz family were later found dead on Friday. The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office said the victims were Amanda “Mandy” Karolkiewicz, 39; Kristopher Karolkiewicz, 47; and their six children: four boys ages 15, 12, 11 and 5, and two 11-year-old girls. Authorities said all eight had gunshot wounds.

Officials identified Kristopher Karolkiewicz as the suspect in what they described as a murder-suicide, and said there were no additional suspects. Fox reported that dispatch audio described the house as filled with smoke, after fire crews first searched the area between about 8:30 a.m. and 9 a.m. and later returned shortly before 11:45 a.m. to the Riverside Trail block after reports of smoke from a residence.

The sheriff’s office said preliminary evidence indicated the fire had been deliberately set in multiple places inside the home, though Michigan State Police arson investigators were still examining the cause and origin. Family pets also died from fire or smoke, according to officials cited by Fox.

Fox also reported that Amanda Karolkiewicz had recently returned from a trip to China with two adopted daughters, based on her social media posts. The outlet cited an online account it attributed to her that described marital problems, including infidelity. The American Heart Association told Fox that Kristopher Karolkiewicz worked there from September 2023 until his employment ended earlier this month, serving in a national sales and marketing role.
