USA Today reported that UFC CEO Dana White said he did not have detailed information about Conor McGregor’s right knee injury after McGregor posted an Instagram video showing himself using a leg extension machine. The video drew attention because McGregor has said he injured the ACL and meniscus in his right knee and will need surgery.

According to USA Today, White was asked about McGregor’s condition on Sunday, July 27, while in New York for a Zuffa Boxing card. White said he did not know exactly what was happening with the knee, though he noted McGregor had appeared by FaceTime at ringside that night. White also said McGregor is expected to be out for a year.

McGregor, 38, reportedly suffered the injury during his July 11 comeback fight against Max Holloway, after opening with a flying kick. The bout was McGregor’s first in five years and ended after 69 seconds when he was visibly impaired and the referee stopped the contest. USA Today also reported that McGregor has said he experienced the same type of injury to his left leg in his first fight with Holloway in 2013.

The situation matters because McGregor remains one of UFC’s biggest names and has one fight left on his UFC contract. USA Today reported that he has said he intends to return to the Octagon, possibly as soon as next summer, but White’s update points to a long recovery period before any potential fight can be scheduled.
