Cybertruck Called the Biggest Flop in Automotive History, as Tesla Shares Plummet - 24/7 Wall St.

What the report says
24/7 Wall St. reported that Tesla’s Cybertruck is facing renewed scrutiny after a Bloomberg report compared its commercial performance with Ford’s Edsel, long used as a symbol of an automotive misfire. The article said Bloomberg’s comparison was based on the gap between Elon Musk’s stated annual target of 250,000 Cybertrucks and actual sales, which reached only about one-sixth of that level in the first full year.
Citing Cox Automotive and S&P Global Mobility figures included in the report, 24/7 Wall St. said Cybertruck sales fell from 38,965 units in 2024 to 20,237 in 2025, a 48.1% decline. The article also said fourth-quarter 2025 sales dropped sharply from the prior year, first-quarter 2026 deliveries reached a low of 3,519, and U.S. registrations totaled 7,133 through May 2026. The outlet noted that Tesla’s earnings materials list the Cybertruck among its vehicle programs, but recent quarterly reports have not presented it as a major growth driver.
The Cybertruck concerns came as Tesla shares had their worst week since 2022, according to 24/7 Wall St. The article said the stock fell 17.81% in the week ending July 24, 2026, after second-quarter adjusted earnings per share of $0.33 missed consensus expectations and free cash flow turned negative at $1.09 billion. Revenue rose year over year to $28.24 billion, but operating income fell and expenses climbed.
The report frames the Cybertruck as part of a broader investor debate over Tesla’s spending on AI, robotics, Cybercab and data centers while its vehicle business remains central to financial results.
