What the report says

ISACA Kampala Chapter used a CEO and Board Breakfast Meeting to urge Ugandan company directors and senior executives to take a much more active role in cybersecurity and digital trust, according to Nile Post. The discussion, held with leaders from public and private sector organisations, focused on the idea that protecting data can no longer be left only to IT staff as more services and transactions move online.

ISACA Kampala President Maurice Taremwa said boards should understand cyber risks, guide spending on technology and security, and support staff awareness. He also stressed that organisations should prepare not only to block attacks but also to recover quickly when incidents happen. The article says he argued Uganda has the capacity to protect its digital ecosystem, but that threats keep evolving.

Peter Mukuru, Director of Business Technology at Uganda Development Bank, said cybersecurity should be seen as more than a technical matter and linked it to the protection of people, their livelihoods and their trust in institutions. He also noted that organisations now depend on suppliers, cloud services, telecoms and payment platforms, meaning a weakness in one place can affect others across the digital chain.

The meeting also touched on artificial intelligence and data protection. Baker Bilikujja of the Personal Data Protection Office urged Ugandans to ask how personal information will be used and stored, and to be careful when sharing identity documents. ISACA said the issues will be carried into its 15th Annual East Africa Information Security Conference, planned for September 14 to 18, 2026 in Kampala.
