Congo-Kinshasa: Ebola Virus Reaches Displacement Camps in DR Congo

UN agencies and health responders are on alert in the Democratic Republic of the Congo after the Ebola Bundibugyo variant was reported in displacement camps in Ituri province, according to UN News via AllAfrica. The UN refugee agency said 19 internally displaced people have been infected and five have died, and that at least five of Ituri’s 69 displacement camps have reported cases. The report said the outbreak was declared on 15 May and has already produced nearly 4,000 cases and more than 1,800 deaths in the broader affected area, largely centered on Ituri.
