Church of Uganda in Mityana Holds Special Prayers for Kabaka, Urges Youth to Preserve Buganda Values

Nile Post reports that Christians in the Church of Uganda’s Mityana Diocese held a special thanksgiving and prayer service for Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II as Buganda continues activities marking his coronation anniversary. The service took place at St. Andrew Church of Uganda, Namukozi, in Mityana District, and was led by the Vicar of Mityana Diocese, Rev. Wilberforce Sseguya.

According to the report, worshippers joined religious, cultural and local leaders in praying for the Kabaka’s health, wisdom and strength, as well as for peace, unity and development in Buganda and Uganda more broadly. Rev. Sseguya urged Christians to keep praying for the Kabaka and encouraged unity and cooperation in support of initiatives linked to peace and community development.

Buganda Kingdom was represented by the Minister for Culture and Heritage, Owek. Anthony Wamala, who delivered the kingdom’s message for this year’s coronation commemorations. Nile Post reports that Wamala placed particular emphasis on youth empowerment, asking young people to safeguard Buganda’s heritage, respect cultural institutions, and contribute to the kingdom’s progress through discipline, work and civic responsibility.

The gathering is part of annual prayers associated with the Kabaka’s coronation anniversary. The event matters because it brought together church and cultural leadership around two recurring themes in Buganda public life: loyalty to the Kabaka as a cultural institution, and efforts to pass language, values, identity and heritage to younger generations while linking them to broader development goals.
