The report cited official data released Wednesday showing China’s gross domestic product grew 4.7% year on year in the first half of 2026, with the economy described as operating within an “appropriate range.”

According to the Xinhua analysis, China’s newer growth areas accounted for more than 40% of economic growth in the first six months of the year. It reported that value-added output in high-tech manufacturing rose 13.3%, while imports and exports of computing hardware, including electronic components and computer parts, increased 56.6% to 5.13 trillion yuan, or more than $757 billion. The article also pointed to exports of AI-related products, green low-carbon goods and high-end equipment, including new energy vehicles, photovoltaic products and lithium batteries.

The report said domestic demand was recovering, with total retail sales of goods and services up 2.7% year on year. It also cited China customs data showing imports rose 22.1% to 10.74 trillion yuan, or about $1.59 trillion, in the first half, growing faster than exports. Xinhua framed this as evidence of China’s expanding role as a global market and its contribution to supply-chain stability.
