Cameroon: Cameroon Win First Wafcon Title in Grand Style

What the report says
Cameroon won its first Women’s Africa Cup of Nations title with a 3-0 victory over Malawi in Sunday’s final at the Moulay El Hassan Stadium in Rabat, Morocco, according to Premium Times in a report distributed by AllAfrica. The Indomitable Lionesses settled the match before halftime, with Marie Ngah scoring in the 20th minute, Naomi Ndjoah Eto adding a second eight minutes later, and Ngah completing her brace just before the break.
The result ended a long run of near misses for Cameroon, which had previously lost three WAFCON finals, all against Nigeria. Premium Times said the team entered this tournament after initially missing qualification but later joining the expanded 16-team field. Cameroon also arrived in the final with a strong defensive record, having conceded only two goals and kept three clean sheets before the title match.
For Malawi, the defeat capped a notable debut campaign. The Scorchers became the first Southern African side apart from South Africa to reach the WAFCON final and had advanced after beating Algeria in the semifinals. Cameroon, meanwhile, reached the final by defeating host nation Morocco on penalties. The win made Cameroon the fourth different nation to capture the continental women’s title, after Nigeria, Equatorial Guinea and South Africa.
