What the report says

Burnley have ended their shirt sponsorship agreement with Finotive One just 42 days after signing it, according to BBC Sport Football. The club confirmed on Friday that the deal had been scrapped, only two days before their Championship opener against West Ham United at home. Burnley said the move was made to protect the club’s interests and those of supporters.

The split has immediate practical consequences for fans and the club’s kit plans. Burnley have removed references to Finotive One from their website, taken the shirts off sale online, and offered refunds or exchanges to anyone who bought the 2026-27 home or away shirts with the now-removed logo. The new sponsor on the front of the shirt will be Vertu Motors, which already has an existing partnership with the club.

BBC Sport Football reported that the change appears likely to come at a cost and that the club did not answer detailed questions about the reasons behind the decision. The timing is especially awkward because Burnley had recently unveiled the away shirt in a high-profile promotional video featuring former NFL player and investor JJ Watt, ex-England cricketer James Anderson and Arnold Schwarzenegger. That material is now outdated.

The episode adds to a wider history of shirt-sponsorship complications at Burnley, including earlier deals linked to gambling companies and changes prompted by financial or regulatory concerns. More generally, sponsorship switches this close to a season start are unusual in English football and can affect commercial planning, retail stock and public messaging.
