Bukomansimbi Police Commended for Peaceful Village Elections

Nile Post reports that police in Bukomansimbi District were commended after Local Council I elections were held without major security incidents across much of the district. The exercise involved residents voting for village chairpersons in competitive races, with police deployed at polling centres from the morning to support order around the process.

According to the report, the operation was led by Bukomansimbi District Police Commander Aggrey Francis Kyesimira, who assigned officers to help safeguard electoral officials, control crowds and prevent disruptions. Police worked with Electoral Commission staff and local leaders as voters turned up at polling venues. Some minor disputes reportedly arose during voter register verification in a few villages, but police intervened before the disagreements grew.

Nile Post says Kyesimira thanked residents for cooperating with security personnel and remaining calm, while also cautioning that police would keep enforcing the law during any remaining electoral activity. The Electoral Commission was also reported to have acknowledged cooperation among residents, election officials and security agencies, saying it helped voting proceed in most villages.

The report says voting was completed in the majority of Bukomansimbi’s 254 villages, while a small number that missed out because of logistical challenges were expected to vote the next day under police supervision. The peaceful conduct is significant because LC I elections determine leadership at the village level, where chairpersons often play a direct role in local administration, dispute handling and community mobilisation.
