Buganda Marks Kabaka Mutebi’s 33rd Coronation Anniversary with Thanksgiving Service at Watoto Church

Buganda Kingdom marked the 33rd anniversary of Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II’s coronation with a thanksgiving service at Watoto Church, according to Nile Post. The event drew cultural leaders, government officials, religious leaders, royal family members and many subjects to celebrate the Kabaka’s years on the throne and his role in unity and development. The ceremony was held in Kampala and included prayers, greetings and messages of support from both the kingdom and the central government.

Nile Post reported that Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga welcomed Nnabagereka Sylvia Nagginda and Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja, who represented President Yoweri Museveni as chief guest. Speakers reflected on the Kabaka’s 1993 coronation at Naggalabi, praised his leadership, and urged Baganda to safeguard their cultural identity. Mayiga also said discussions over remaining Buganda properties would continue, while stressing that the monarch serves all people, not only Christians.

In a message read through Nabbanja, Museveni congratulated Kabaka Mutebi and reiterated the government’s commitment to working with the Buganda Kingdom. The president also acknowledged the kingdom’s and the Kabaka’s contributions in areas such as health, education and community development. The report said Museveni contributed Shs 40 million toward the celebrations, while Watoto Church donated Shs 38 million to Kkamazzi Hospital to support healthcare for island communities. The anniversary ended with cake-cutting led by Nalinnya Lubuga Agnes Nabaloga.
