Brighton sign Canada striker David on loan

What the report says
Brighton have completed the signing of Canada striker Promise David from Royale Union Saint-Gilloise, taking him on a season-long loan that includes an obligation to buy. BBC Sport reports the eventual transfer fee is a reported £22m. David is 25 and joins as Brighton continue strengthening their attacking options ahead of the new season.
The striker spent one season in Belgium, making 82 appearances for Royale Union Saint-Gilloise and scoring 41 goals while adding nine assists. BBC Sport says he helped the club win their first league title in 90 years in the 2024-25 campaign, when he scored 24 goals. Before moving to Belgium in 2024, David had played in Canada, Croatia, the United States, Malta and Estonia, reflecting a varied career path through several leagues.
David has also gained international experience with Canada. The BBC notes he appeared as a substitute in four of their five World Cup matches and scored against Switzerland in the group stage. Brighton sporting director Mike Cave said the club had monitored him for some time and valued his physical presence, scoring record and experience in European and international football.
The move comes as Brighton prepare for a busy start to the season, with a Europa Conference League play-off against Tromso and their Premier League opener away to Aston Villa later in the week.
