According to Nile Post, journalists on a BRICS familiarization tour visited two key institutions on Friday: the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (CDRI), both in New Delhi. The briefings were meant to show how India is approaching disaster risk reduction and infrastructure that can better withstand climate-related shocks.

The article says the CDRI, headquartered in New Delhi, works with countries and partners to promote infrastructure that can recover more quickly after disasters. It also notes that India recently hosted the third BRICS Ministerial Meeting on Disaster Risk Reduction, where member states adopted a joint statement calling for stronger cooperation in this area. That meeting, held in July, covered climate-smart infrastructure, financing, new technologies and international partnerships.

More broadly, the report places this agenda in the context of growing climate pressure across developing countries, including floods, droughts and landslides in Africa. It also says India expects roughly 1,200 to 1,300 journalists from BRICS and partner countries to cover the summit, underscoring the international attention on the bloc’s expanding role and practical cooperation.
