Besigye treason witness questioned over return to Nairobi apartment

The hearing focused on Wilson’s account of events linked to the alleged arrest of the accused in Nairobi, Kenya, with Lutale’s lawyers using the session to challenge parts of his testimony and reduce any link to their client.

The publication reported that Wilson told court he later slept in the same Nairobi apartment he had said he left to avoid arrest, a detail the defence treated as significant because it raised questions about his movements and role around the operation. Wilson said he had not been in contact with the arresting team beforehand and denied taking part in the arrest itself.

Nile Post also said Wilson testified that recording devices said to have been taken from the apartment were later returned to him by Kenyan police personnel. He further said certain aspects of his travel and the broader operation were “classified,” and did not give full details of how he entered Kenya beyond saying he traveled by road. The prosecution is expected to re-examine him on September 17.

The case remains notable because Besigye is not present in court, while the Nairobi events at the center of the prosecution’s narrative have still not been fully explained in public filings, based on the report.
