What the report says

Nile Post reported that Bashir Kagimu, the newly elected LC1 chairperson for Bukomansimbi Central, has named his executive committee after winning the village leadership race as an independent candidate. According to the report, Kagimu defeated National Resistance Movement candidate Dirisa Ssemanda with 174 votes, prompting celebrations among supporters in the area.

After being declared winner, Kagimu thanked residents for backing him and said their support had placed a major responsibility on his leadership. Nile Post said he pledged to focus on better service delivery, accountability, community development and helping residents access government programmes. He also asked the public to support the team he had selected to help run village affairs.

The report named Magret Nakayiza, also known as Maama Mega, as the new village vice chairperson. Gerald Ssemwogere was appointed treasurer, while Joseph Kalya was named secretary, alongside other committee members. Kagimu said the appointees were chosen for their ability and integrity, and he cautioned them against using their positions to settle disputes or divide residents.

Nile Post also reported that some residents welcomed the committee and expressed optimism that it would improve welfare in the village. The development comes in the context of recent LC1 elections in Bukomansimbi District, where the publisher said several independent candidates have posted wins while campaigning on grassroots development and service delivery.
