Barcelona handed $670 fine for approaching Atletico’s Alvarez

What the report says
Barcelona have been fined 602 euros, or about $670, by the Spanish football federation after Atletico Madrid complained that the club had made an improper approach to striker Julian Alvarez. According to the report, the issue centered on contact with the Argentina international while he remains under contract with Atletico until June 2030, which Atletico said should have been preceded by written notice. The sanction was issued under Article 133 of the federation’s regulations.
Atletico also took the matter to FIFA, but the governing body said it did not have jurisdiction. The case adds a small formal penalty to a transfer dispute that has run through the summer window and reflects the sensitivity around direct contact with players still tied to another club.
The article also said Alvarez publicly apologized for comments that angered Atletico supporters, after an interview during the 2026 World Cup in which he said he wanted to fulfill his dream of playing for Barcelona. He later scored Atletico’s winner against Deportivo La Coruna on Saturday, and some fans gave him a standing ovation, suggesting relations with the club’s supporters may be easing. Alvarez joined Atletico from Manchester City in 2024 in a deal reported to be worth up to 95 million euros.
