Athletic Club forward Inaki Williams has announced that he is ending his international career with Ghana, according to BBC Africa. The 32-year-old said on social media that he felt the time had come to close his chapter with the Black Stars, describing the decision as one made with pride and gratitude after representing the country for four years.

BBC Africa reported that Williams made 28 appearances for Ghana and scored two goals, both in qualification for the 2026 World Cup. He featured at the 2022 and 2026 World Cups and at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, and played twice at this year’s tournament before Ghana were eliminated by Colombia in the round of 32.

Born in Bilbao to Ghanaian parents, Williams previously represented Spain at youth level and once in a senior friendly before choosing Ghana. His younger brother Nico has gone on to represent Spain. The announcement comes shortly after Ghana confirmed the return of Carlos Queiroz as coach as the team begins planning for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations in East Africa. The development matters because Williams was one of Ghana’s most recognisable dual-national players and his exit leaves the Black Stars with one fewer experienced option in attack.
