What the report says

Arsenal have completed the signing of Newcastle United captain Bruno Guimaraes, with the Premier League champions announcing a four-year deal that includes an additional one-year option. Al Jazeera, citing Reuters and British media reports, said the transfer fee is around 75 million pounds, or about $101m. The Brazil international is 28 and arrives after establishing himself as one of the league’s leading midfielders.

According to the report, Guimaraes said he was excited by the chance to work with Arsenal sporting director Andrea Berta and manager Mikel Arteta, and described the move as a new challenge. Arsenal view him as a versatile addition who can play either as a holding midfielder or in a more box-to-box role, strengthening competition in midfield alongside players such as Declan Rice, Martin Zubimendi, Mikel Merino and Martin Odegaard.

Guimaraes joined Newcastle from Lyon in January 2022 and made 195 appearances in all competitions, scoring 31 goals. He also captained Newcastle to League Cup success in 2025, ending a long trophy drought for the club. His departure is presented as another setback for Newcastle, which has also seen other key figures leave, while Arsenal’s move signals ambition as they defend their Premier League title and prepare for European competition.

Arsenal are due to start their new season at home to promoted Coventry City on August 21.
