Angola: Five Cabo Ledo Crash Victims in Critical Condition

Angolan health officials said five of the 30 people injured in a bus crash in Cabo Ledo, in Icolo e Bengo Province, remain in critical condition. Health Minister Sílvia Lutucuta gave the update in Luanda on Sunday, describing injuries that include fractures and lung contusions. The vehicle was a Real Express bus that overturned in the early hours of Sunday, according to the report from Angola Press Agency via AllAfrica.

Lutucuta said there have been no fatalities among the passengers injured in the accident. She added that the most serious cases include a stable cervical spine fracture that does not require surgery and a fractured clavicle. One child is being evaluated after a nosebleed, and another patient with epilepsy suffered several seizures after the crash and is still under medical supervision.

The minister said most of the injured have bruises and abrasions, but all remain under observation because trauma patients can develop delayed complications such as internal bleeding. Of those hospitalized, 22 are adults and eight are children. She said the next 24 to 48 hours are expected to be especially important for monitoring recovery.

The Cabo Ledo crash came six days after another deadly road accident in Cuanza-Sul Province, which injured 12 people and killed 22, underscoring continuing road safety concerns in Angola.
