Gizmodo reported that Amy’s Kitchen has issued a voluntary recall of about 184,000 cans of soup in 27 U.S. states because of a manufacturing issue involving the cans’ pull-tab seals. The affected product is limited to Amy’s Organic Lentil Soup, Light in Sodium, with lot number 60D0924 and a best-by date of April 2027.

According to the report, Amy’s said the recall was made as a precaution to protect product quality and that no other Amy’s products or lots are included. The soup is sold through major retailers such as Target, Walmart and Kroger, as well as regional chains including Sprouts and Hy-Vee. The states listed in the recall are Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, Maine, Missouri, North Carolina, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Nevada, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Washington and Wisconsin.

Gizmodo said the U.S. Food and Drug Administration classified the action as a Class II recall. That category generally covers situations where a product could cause temporary or medically reversible health effects, or where serious harm is considered unlikely. The article contrasted that with Class I recalls, which involve a higher risk of severe health consequences or death.

The report also noted a separate, unrelated recall involving Tasty Kitchen Chicken Noodle Condensed Soup imported from Canadian firm BCI Foods. In that case, Gizmodo said the recall was tied to the product not being presented for USDA inspection, and that no illnesses or injuries had been reported.
