Alupo Hails Catholic Church's Role in Community Development

Nile Post reported that Vice President Jessica Alupo commended the Catholic Church for its role in Uganda’s community development, saying it has supported government work in areas such as education, health care and social services. Her message was delivered by the State Minister for Kampala, Kabuye Kyofatogabye, during St. Charles Lwanga Day celebrations at St. Kalooli Catholic Church in Nabweru-Kibwa.

According to the report, Alupo described the Church as an important partner in efforts to improve citizens’ welfare and strengthen social and moral development. The event brought together hundreds of Catholic faithful to commemorate the Uganda Martyrs and reflect on faith, service, peace and development in their communities.

Kyofatogabye also used the gathering to urge young people to show greater responsibility in caring for elderly people. He called on residents to keep calm and avoid violence during the forthcoming Local Council village chairperson elections. Monsignor John Baptist Ssebayiga, the parish priest of St. Kizito Bwaise, delivered the homily and encouraged Christians to pursue both external cleanliness and moral renewal.

Nile Post also reported that Nansana Resident District Commissioner Charles Lwanga praised government programmes including the Parish Development Model, Emyooga and road infrastructure works, saying they were helping improve livelihoods. The report places the Church’s contribution within a wider discussion about public services, household income initiatives and peaceful civic participation at local level.
