Akech Warns Health Workers Against Absenteeism as Tetugo HCIII Gets Staff Houses

Dokolo Resident District Commissioner Babra Akech used the commissioning of new staff accommodation at Tetugo Health Centre III in Agwata Town Council to caution health workers against absenteeism, late reporting and asking patients for money. She said the new housing should help staff stay near the facility and improve service delivery, while also calling on local leaders to encourage school-going children to return when the new term begins.

The Dokolo Post reported that the event on Thursday marked the opening of two staff houses and a four-stance VIP latrine at the health centre. The housing projects were built by Elengo Enterprises Limited and Parvart Consult Limited at contract sums of Shs204.9 million and Shs201.1 million respectively, while Delex Construction Company Limited constructed the latrine for Shs21.6 million. Officials said the works are meant to improve accommodation and sanitation at the facility.

District Health Officer Dr Samuel Ojok echoed the warning on absenteeism, saying the new accommodation should remove excuses linked to distance and transport. Tetugo HCIII in-charge Jimmy Omee said the houses should help staff report on time, noting that some had been living far away. The facility currently has 10 health workers.

Other speakers urged proper maintenance of the new buildings and raised remaining concerns such as the need for a kitchen, electricity, better roads and resolution of a land ownership dispute affecting land titling. The district said Tetugo HCIII is the seventh health facility to receive staff accommodation.
