Africa: Africa CDC Commends Kenya's Decisive Leadership and Strengthens Joint Efforts to Contain Ebola

What the report says
Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention Director-General Jean Kaseya met with Kenya’s Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale in Nairobi to discuss the country’s response to an Ebola outbreak, according to AllAfrica’s report of an Africa CDC statement. The agency said it was commending Kenya’s political leadership, rapid mobilisation and containment measures, and that early detection, surveillance and coordinated national action were central to limiting spread.
Africa CDC said it has stepped up support for Kenya with about US$1.5 million in financial, technical and operational assistance. The package includes deployment of 10 African public health experts, laboratory reagents and diagnostic test kits, and help with surveillance, contact tracing, case management and community engagement. The agency also said it is providing equipment worth about US$350,000 to strengthen Kenya’s Public Health Emergency Operations Centre.
The statement framed Kenya’s response as part of a wider continental effort to protect health security, noting that outbreaks can cross borders if not contained quickly. Africa CDC said no country can handle a public health emergency alone and highlighted the role of regional solidarity and resource sharing.
As further context reported by Africa CDC, the agency convened an extraordinary meeting of African health ministers on 28 October 2026 to review the evolving situation and coordinate next steps. The meeting was presented as part of efforts to align African governments on urgent containment measures.
