Action resumes today with seniors vying for the Johnnie Walker Uganda Open Golf title

What the report says
The Johnnie Walker Uganda Open Golf Championship continues today in Kampala with the Seniors Open at Uganda Golf Club, where seasoned players will compete over 36 holes. The event follows the women’s Open at the same venue, which was won by Tanzania’s Hawa Wanyeche, and forms part of the wider Uganda Open golf series.
In the men’s field, defending champion David Plenderleith is among the leading names. The report says he is set to tee off at 10:10am with William Mutyaba and Shashi Mwinyi. Plenderleith won last year’s title at Lugazi Hills Golf and Country Club, while Kenya’s John Muchiri, a former two-time winner, is also back in pursuit of the trophy. Other expected contenders include 2024 champion Stephen Katwiremu, Onyango Matata and Chris Mutegyeki.
The women’s competition is being led by defending champion Catherine Pavie of Jinja Club, who won last year’s female category by two strokes over Katy Kabenge. Pavie is scheduled to tee off at 9:30am with Eldad Mwangusya and Michael Cleave, while Kabenge, Edrae Kagombe, Jeninah Nasimolo and Grace Obua are also in the mix.
The Independent Uganda says the Seniors Open highlights the long participation of veteran golfers in the sport. Johnnie Walker East Africa brand manager Christine Kyokunda linked that theme to the company’s “Keep Walking” message. The tournament is expected to conclude with an Afro-themed 19th Hole event on Saturday, including live entertainment.
