SlashGear reports that several automakers are again looking at rear-wheel-drive sedans after years in which SUVs, crossovers and electric vehicles pushed traditional four-door performance and luxury cars out of many lineups. The outlet identifies Buick and Cadillac as the strongest General Motors-related cases, while Ford, Nissan/Infiniti and Mazda are described as possible or developing candidates based on product planning, industry reporting and recent concept activity.

For Buick, SlashGear points to reports that GM is developing an updated Alpha 2 rear-drive platform, expected to support a new Chevrolet Camaro and also a Buick sedan. The article notes Buick currently sells only crossover SUVs in the U.S. and has not offered a rear-drive passenger car since the Roadmaster era. Cadillac’s current CT4 and CT5 are said to be nearing the end of production after 2026, but SlashGear says industry sources indicate a new CT5 is planned for the same updated platform, with performance variants still uncertain.

The less certain prospects include Mazda, Ford and Nissan/Infiniti.
