KOMO News reported that a shooting during the Bite of Seattle food festival at Seattle Center on Sunday evening left three people dead and at least four others injured, including a 2-year-old boy. Seattle police said the first reports came shortly after 6 p.m. near Sue Bird Court and Thomas Street, prompting a large emergency response and evacuation of the Seattle Center area.

According to KOMO, Seattle police said one suspect, described only as a young person, was taken into custody soon after the gunfire by officers already assigned to the event. Police said they were still looking into a possible second suspect and believed the violence may have involved two people shooting at one another rather than festivalgoers being specifically targeted. Two firearms were recovered, and investigators asked witnesses and anyone with information to contact police.

Seattle Fire initially said two people died at the scene. Police later said another injured person died, raising the toll to three. Harborview Medical Center treated multiple gunshot victims, including adults and the toddler; reported conditions ranged from stable or satisfactory to critical for one adult female patient who was in surgery. Crews also treated a woman with minor injuries who was not transported, and police said another gunshot victim went independently to a University of Washington medical facility.

The shooting disrupted one of Seattle’s major public summer events and drew responses from state and city leaders. Gov. Bob Ferguson said the Washington State Patrol SWAT team was sent to assist at Seattle police’s request. Mayor Katie Wilson called the violence devastating for victims’ families and the broader community, while officials said more details were expected after the arrested suspect’s court appearance.
