24-Year-Old Lwengo Man Found Dead in House

What the report says
Residents in Lwengo District are seeking answers after a 24-year-old man, identified as John Sserugo, was found dead inside his house, according to Nile Post. The body was discovered after neighbours noticed a foul smell coming from the home and broke in to check. Police have opened an investigation into the circumstances of the death.
The report says Sserugo had last been seen two days earlier, and his body was already decomposing when found. His mother, Fausta Nammande, said she had spoken to him shortly before his death and was devastated by the news. She and other family members have called for a thorough inquiry to determine what happened.
Local leaders and residents described Sserugo as generally peaceful, though some people said he drank heavily and ate very little. Those claims have not been verified, and the cause of death remained unknown at the time of reporting. Village chairperson Richard Lubambula said the condition of the body suggested he may have died about two days before being discovered.
The incident has also fed wider concern in the area about security and community welfare. Leaders in Lwengo raised concerns about reported crime and gambling in the district, while district chairperson Hajji Abasi Kizito urged residents to stay connected with neighbours and check on one another. Police said the body was taken to Masaka Regional Referral Hospital for further examination as investigations continue.
