President Emmerson Mnangagwa presided over Midlands State University’s 27th graduation ceremony on Thursday, where 7,888 students received degrees at the university’s Kwekwe Campus in Zimbabwe. The event was held at the Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa Law School under a theme focused on knowledge, innovation and enterprise, according to the report carried by AllAfrica from New Zimbabwe.

Among the graduands was Miniyothabo Francisca Baloyi-Chiwenga, wife of Vice President Constantino Chiwenga, who was awarded a Doctor of Business Leadership degree. Her research reportedly examined how government spending can be balanced between defence and civilian priorities, a policy issue often described as the “guns versus butter” dilemma. The article also noted that the ceremony included graduates from 10 faculties and that women made up a majority of the cohort, continuing a pattern seen in recent MSU graduations.

MSU Vice Chancellor Victor Muzvidziwa said the graduation reflected years of academic work and aligned with Zimbabwe’s national development plans. He said many of the awards were in honours and master’s programmes, while a smaller number were doctoral-level degrees. The university also highlighted new graduates in biomedical sciences and engineering fields, underscoring the institution’s emphasis on STEM and critical skills training. The report said the graduation came as MSU’s moot court team had recently won a global competition in Geneva.
