Zimbabwe: Police Probe Underway Into Fatal Marondera Helicopter Crash

What the report says
Zimbabwean police have opened an investigation into a helicopter crash at Kudenga Farm in Marondera that killed businessman Wicknel Chivayo, his wife, and three other people. According to 263Chat, which was distributed by AllAfrica, the crash happened on Wednesday at about 5 p.m., and authorities said they are still working to establish what caused the aircraft to go down.
Zimbabwe Republic Police national spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi said forensic scientists and aviation specialists had visited the scene as investigators began collecting and examining evidence. The Zimbabwe Republic Police said it is working with relevant experts, and the Civil Aviation Authority of Zimbabwe has also been involved in the inquiry.
The other occupants were identified as Saneliswe Magagula, pilot Calvin Tafirei Soda, and co-pilot Courage Mutavirwa. Preliminary information cited by aviation authorities indicated that fuel spilled after impact and a fire followed, but the cause of the crash itself has not yet been determined. An intact black box was reportedly recovered, which may help investigators reconstruct what happened. Authorities said more information will be released as the probe continues.
The case is significant because it involves a fatal aviation accident with a high-profile victim and several others on board, and the findings could shed light on safety and operational issues in the incident.
