Zari responds to Full Figure over charity claims

Socialite and businesswoman Zari Hassan has responded to criticism from singer-turned-politician Full Figure, who challenged her on social media over what was described as lavish birthday spending and her charity work. The exchange, reported by Sqoop Uganda, centers on whether public figures should direct more of their wealth toward helping others.

According to the publisher, Zari pushed back in a video posted on her social media accounts, saying people should not tell others how to spend money they did not earn. She framed the criticism as entitlement and said giving is a personal decision rather than an obligation. Zari also said she has supported charity projects for years, including work in Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania and South Africa.

She pointed to assistance for Katalemwa Cheshire Home, where she said she has donated wheelchairs and supplies, and described support for women in prison. Zari also said she has adopted an orphanage in South Africa with about 76 children through her company, providing items such as computers, school uniforms, books, meals and bedding. She added that she supports children in Kampala with school fees, but does not publicize every donation.

The dispute highlights a recurring debate around celebrity philanthropy, online accountability and expectations placed on wealthy public figures. Sqoop Uganda reported that Zari said her charitable work began before she became widely known for it and that she intends to continue supporting people across the region.
