Zambia’s Gilbert Chalwe took control of the 94th Johnnie Walker Uganda Amateur Open after the second day of play at Uganda Golf Club in Kampala, according to The Independent Uganda. Chalwe followed an opening 74 with a 7-under 65 to move to the top of the leaderboard on 139 overall, one stroke ahead of Uganda’s Joseph Kasozi and fellow Zambian Dominic Musonda, who were tied on 140.

The report said Chalwe’s round was notably steady, with birdies on several holes and no dropped shots. It also highlighted Musonda’s 68, which kept the Zambian challenge strong, while Kasozi, the day-one leader, slipped back after a second-round 72. Other Ugandan contenders remained in touch, including John Musiimenta on 142 and a group of players further back on 148 and 149.

The four-day event is also part of Official World Golf Ranking competition and was scheduled to finish on Friday. The article said the top 15 golfers were to share a cash prize of sh15 million, while the leading 10 would earn places in next week’s Pro Open.
