Zambia: Zambia Election - Tanzania Denies Meddling

What the report says
Tanzania has rejected suggestions that it meddled in Zambia’s recent election, after remarks by Zambian presidential candidate Brian Mundubile prompted questions about the role of Tanzanian observers. In a statement issued by Gerson Msigwa, the Permanent Secretary in Tanzania’s Ministry of Culture, Arts and Sports and the chief government spokesperson, Dar es Salaam said it had taken note of the concerns and had asked the Zambian authorities for clarification through Tanzania’s High Commission in Zambia.
According to the report from Tanzania Daily News, the government said its participation in Zambia was limited to a Southern African Development Community election observation mission. It stressed that Tanzanian representatives were present under SADC procedures to observe the process, not to influence it, and said this reflected routine regional cooperation intended to support transparent and credible elections.
The clarification came amid social media discussion over alleged outside influence in the vote. The article also noted that Zambia’s Electoral Commission had temporarily paused counting after reports of isolated disruptions, with counting continuing under tighter security while candidates and other stakeholders awaited official results. Tanzania said it remained committed to sovereignty, mutual respect and non-interference, as well as to cordial relations with Zambia and wider regional cooperation.
