Youth urged to lead fight against corruption as Buryansungwe Secondary School marks St Anne and Joachim feast

Nile Post reported that students at Buryansungwe Secondary School in Kicheche Sub-county, Kitagwenda District, were urged to make integrity a personal value and take part in efforts to curb corruption during the school’s celebration of the Feast of St. Anne and St. Joachim. The message was delivered on Saturday by John Tinka Katungwensi, Commissioner of the Tax Academy at the Uganda Revenue Authority.

According to the report, Katungwensi told learners that corruption and declining morals are linked to weak values, lack of discipline and absence of accountability. He encouraged students to practice honesty at school, in church and in their communities, and advised them to avoid pursuing wealth through dishonest means. He also warned against irresponsible use of social media, urging learners to focus on digital content that supports education and personal development.

The event also served as a fundraising occasion for planned improvements to school security. Nile Post said the school is seeking support for construction of a perimeter wall and installation of CCTV cameras to help protect learners, staff and property. The gathering brought together religious leaders, political leaders, parents, alumni and community members.

The publisher reported that Kitagwenda District Woman MP Robert Mugabe commended Bishop Francis Aquirinus Kibira, the school’s director, for supporting access to education in the area. Head teacher Sr. Independence Ayebare thanked parents, partners and well-wishers for their contributions, saying the fundraising would support the school’s continued development and safety needs.
