Youth Minister Lakisa challenges youth leaders to deliver results

Minister of State for Youth and Children’s Affairs Mercy Faith Lakisa has called on youth leaders in Uganda to focus less on holding office and more on delivering practical results for young people and the wider country. According to Nile Post, she made the remarks while welcoming youth representatives to the Annual National Youth Council Sitting ahead of International Youth Day.

Lakisa urged the council and other youth leaders to treat leadership as a present responsibility rather than something reserved for the future. She encouraged them to show integrity, courage and purpose, and to help turn youth representation into measurable action, practical solutions and meaningful contributions to national development.

The minister also said young Ugandans should be equipped with the skills, opportunities, platforms and confidence to play an active role in shaping the country’s future. She stressed that youth leadership should promote service, innovation and unity, and that International Youth Day should recognize both the potential of young people and their duty to contribute to development.

The Annual National Youth Council Sitting is a regular forum for youth leaders to discuss issues affecting young people and their participation in public life. More broadly, the message reflects a common policy theme in Uganda and elsewhere: encouraging youth to move from symbolic representation to concrete involvement in governance and community problem-solving.
