The article explains that the feature relies on HDMI-Consumer Electronics Control, or HDMI-CEC, a standard that lets a television remote send commands to connected devices through HDMI. LG brands its implementation as Simplink.

According to BGR, the setup requires enabling Simplink on the LG television and HDMI Device Link on the PS5. On LG TVs running 2022 webOS 22, users can go through Settings, All Settings, General, Devices and HDMI Settings, then switch on “SIMPLINK (HDMI-CEC).” For 2020 webOS 5.0 models, the path is Settings, All Settings, Connection and Device Connection Settings before enabling the same option. On the PlayStation 5, users must open Settings, choose System, then HDMI, and turn on “Enable HDMI Device Link.”

BGR also notes optional power-related settings, including “Enable One Touch Play” on the PS5 and, in some cases, “Auto Power Sync” on the TV, which may allow the remote to help power on the console. The piece cautions that this does not turn an LG remote into a game controller: it cannot replace the DualSense for gameplay, thumbstick input or shoulder-button commands.
