Yemen’s Houthis report attack on Saudi ship

Yemen’s Houthi movement said it carried out an attack on a Saudi-linked oil tanker in the Red Sea near Yanbu, a major Saudi export port on the kingdom’s west coast. According to Al Jazeera’s report, the group said the vessel, identified as the Amzan and operated by Saudi shipping company Bahri, was struck with a ballistic missile. The Houthis framed the strike as part of their broader campaign against Saudi maritime traffic.

Bahri later confirmed that its vessel had been involved in a maritime incident in the Red Sea. The company said it was still in contact with the ship and coordinating with relevant authorities. It also said all crew members were safe and no injuries had been reported. Saudi officials did not immediately comment, and Al Jazeera said its request for response from the foreign ministry went unanswered.

The report comes amid a series of recent Houthi attacks on shipping and Saudi-linked targets in the region. Al Jazeera noted that the group has also targeted an oil refinery in Saudi Arabia and attacked a cargo vessel in the Bab al-Mandeb Strait in recent weeks. The renewed threats have raised concern about Red Sea shipping and regional energy flows, especially because Yanbu is a key outlet for Saudi oil exports.
