Gizmodo reports that Xteink has announced the X4 Pro, a new version of its unusually small e-reader that builds on the X4 model that drew attention last year for attaching magnetically to the back of a smartphone. According to Gizmodo, the X4 Pro keeps much of the earlier model’s design, including a 4.3-inch display and a 72-gram weight, but adds features meant to make it feel more complete. The new version also has a larger 1,100mAh battery, up from 650mAh, and adds touchscreen support. Gizmodo says the device is priced at $109, with a current listing at $99.

The report also notes several compromises. Xteink has replaced USB-C with a pogo-pin charging connector, meaning users would need a dedicated cable. Gizmodo says the display reaches 219 ppi, below the 300 ppi offered by entry-level Kindles, and cautions that Xteink’s software has previously been less polished than Kindle or Kobo interfaces, despite the company saying it has improved.
