Wrexham have added centre-back Joe Worrall from Championship rivals Burnley on an undisclosed fee, the BBC Sport Football report says. The 29-year-old has signed a two-year deal with an option for a further year, giving manager Phil Parkinson another experienced defensive option before the transfer deadline. Worrall, a former Nottingham Forest player, is expected to help address a back line that has not kept a clean sheet in Wrexham’s first four matches of the season.

According to the report, Wrexham are still searching for their first win across all competitions in 2026-27, and Parkinson has publicly acknowledged concerns after the team conceded what he described as very soft goals in a recent defeat to Birmingham City. Worrall’s arrival follows the departure of Conor Coady by mutual consent, leaving the club needing reinforcements in central defence.

Worrall comes to North Wales with significant second-tier experience. The BBC says he made more than 200 appearances for Nottingham Forest, helped them win promotion to the Premier League, and later joined Burnley in 2024. He also had loan spells at clubs including Rangers and Besiktas, and has England under-21 caps.

The signing fits into a busy summer at Wrexham, who have already brought in several players as they continue adjusting to life in the Championship. The move matters because defensive stability has become an early issue for a club aiming to compete strongly after a rapid rise through the divisions.
