Wrexham had to block outside noise - Parkinson

What the report says
Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson said his team needed to “block everything out” after responding to recent scrutiny with a strong 4-1 Championship win over Preston North End at the Racecourse. BBC Sport reported that the result ended a brief run of poor form after a midweek 2-1 home defeat by West Bromwich Albion and eased talk that pressure was building on the manager during a difficult start to the season.
Parkinson said criticism is part of football, but argued it has felt sharper at Wrexham because of the club’s profile. He told BBC Radio Wales Sport that he and his staff focused on bringing the squad together, selecting the right team and approach, and producing a performance that showed character and mental resilience. He also said the squad’s inconsistency has been affected by a significant injury list.
The match itself gave Wrexham a much-needed lift. First goals for the club from Joe Worrall and Ben Whiteman helped them establish a 2-1 lead at half-time, before Sam Smith and Kieffer Moore added second-half goals to seal the win against the Championship’s bottom side. Parkinson said the injured players should eventually return, giving the team more competition and depth. The victory was described as Wrexham’s second home league win of the season.
