Wrexham fined for fielding ineligible players

What the report says
Wrexham have been fined £75,000 by the English Football League after two separate breaches involving ineligible players this season, BBC Sport Football reported. The EFL said £25,000 of the penalty is suspended. The cases related to Issa Kabore and Callum O’Hare, who were both registered by the club during the summer transfer window.
According to the report, Kabore played as a substitute in Wrexham’s 2-1 loss to Birmingham City on 28 August even though his Home Office right-to-work paperwork had not been uploaded properly. O’Hare was named on the bench for the 3-0 win at Millwall on 2 September, but his documentation was not submitted in time for him to be eligible.
Wrexham said in a statement that it had reached an agreed decision with the EFL over the two eligibility breaches. The club also said it is taking steps to prevent similar problems in future. BBC Sport added that Wrexham are understood to be improving internal procedures, including by hiring a club secretary and strengthening administrative training.
The report noted that the incidents were not being attributed to manager Phil Parkinson, his coaching staff or sporting director Steve Nickson. Wrexham are currently 17th in the Championship after 12 matches, with the sanctions adding an off-field issue to their first season back in the second tier.
