World shares mostly gain and South Korea and Japan recover some losses from AI stock sell-offs - AP News
What the report says
The Associated Press reported that global equities mostly advanced Tuesday, with U.S. markets rising as technology and artificial intelligence-linked shares recovered for a second consecutive session. On Wall Street, the S&P 500 gained 0.9%, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 385 points, or 0.7%, and the Nasdaq composite added 1.3%. The rebound followed recent pressure on AI-related stocks, which had fallen amid investor concern that valuations had climbed too far and that AI investment may not deliver expected profits or productivity gains.
Chipmakers were central to the rally. AP reported that Micron Technology surged 12.2% after gaining the previous day, while Nvidia rose 2%; both were among the biggest contributors to the S&P 500’s advance. Several corporate earnings reports also supported sentiment, including stronger-than-expected results from 3M, Hasbro and General Motors. Danaher fell despite beating profit and revenue estimates, and homebuilder D.R. Horton slipped as executives cited affordability pressures and cautious buyers.
The gains came alongside renewed inflation concerns tied to oil. Brent crude briefly approached $92 per barrel before settling at $91.01, AP reported, as markets tracked continuing U.S.-Iran attacks. The 10-year Treasury yield rose to 4.63%, compared with 4.60% late Monday, adding pressure to areas such as housing and raising the possibility that central banks could keep interest rates higher if energy costs feed inflation.
In overseas trading, European indexes posted modest gains. South Korea’s Kospi jumped 3.6%, led by Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix, both major beneficiaries of AI demand. Japan’s Nikkei 225 climbed 3.3% after a holiday, while Shanghai rose 1.8% and Hong Kong was little changed.
