World condemns deadly Houthi attack on Saudi Arabia’s Riyadh airport

What the report says
Saudi Arabia said a Houthi attack on Riyadh International Airport killed at least 12 people and injured about 300 others, in what the country described as the third strike on the airport in a week. The victims included Saudi nationals and people from Bangladesh, the United States, Jordan, Palestine, Syria, Sudan and Egypt, according to Saudi civil aviation authorities. The assault was described in the article as the deadliest in the kingdom in more than a decade, and it comes amid intensifying fighting in Yemen between the Houthis and forces aligned with the internationally recognized government.
The report said world leaders and governments quickly condemned the attack. US President Donald Trump called it terrible and said Washington was weighing whether to join Saudi operations against the Houthis. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said an American was killed and urged an end to what he called reprehensible attacks. The UN envoy for Yemen, Hans Grundberg, said strikes on civilian airports marked a grave escalation and could worsen regional instability and peace efforts.
Several Middle Eastern and Asian governments also issued statements of solidarity with Saudi Arabia, including Egypt, Qatar, Palestine and Japan. Their comments focused on the protection of civilians, civilian facilities and air navigation. More broadly, the attack highlights how the Yemen war continues to spill beyond the country’s borders, deepening regional tensions and complicating diplomatic efforts.
