What the report says

Rabbi Matondo has joined Hibernian on a contract running until the end of the season, with the Scottish club holding an option to extend it by another year. BBC Sport Football reported that the 26-year-old winger had been on trial at Easter Road before becoming new manager Marink Reedijk’s first signing since he replaced David Gray last month.

Matondo arrives after leaving Norwegian side Brann in August, following a five-month spell there. Before that, he spent close to four years at Rangers, where he made 70 appearances and scored eight goals, with a loan period at Hannover during that time. He has also played for Schalke, Stoke City and Cercle Brugge.

The BBC said Matondo’s most recent Rangers appearance came in January 2025, and that he has 15 Wales caps. His only international goal so far came in 2025, in a 3-1 win over Kazakhstan. Reedijk said the winger had made a strong impression during Hibs’ camp in La Manga and would add pace and directness in wide areas, alongside a positive presence in the dressing room.

The move gives Hibernian an experienced wide player as Reedijk begins shaping his squad. For Matondo, it is a chance to restart his club career in Scotland after a series of moves across Britain and Europe.
