BBC Sport reports that Newcastle United supporters will vote on a proposed new club crest, with the Premier League side preparing for its first badge change since 1988. The current crest is still liked by many fans and, according to the BBC, will continue to be worn during the 2026-27 season, but the club says the design no longer works reliably across digital, broadcast and merchandise uses because of its detailed and uneven features.

The move was first raised publicly in May 2025. Newcastle have since discussed options with their fan advisory board and surveyed 19,500 members and season ticket holders. The club said that feedback helped shape the designs that will appear on the ballot. BBC Sport reported that 84% of those surveyed wanted any update to reflect the club’s heritage rather than amount to a full redesign.

Supporters were also asked to rank the most significant parts of the existing badge, including the castle, seahorses, black-and-white shield and ribbon. Eligible voters will include season ticket holders, members and people who bought tickets for at least two Newcastle women’s home matches last season. They are expected to choose their preferred design during a two-week voting period in August.

Fan reaction highlighted by the BBC was mixed. Some supporters questioned whether the process should include a “none of the above” choice and worried about an overly simplified corporate-style redesign. Others said the club appeared to be consulting fans and argued that brands, including football clubs, sometimes need to adapt while respecting tradition.
