Why 6-0, nine-man loss to West Ham 'won't define' Lincoln

What the report says
Lincoln City head coach Tom Shaw said his side will not be defined by a 6-0 home defeat to West Ham United in the Championship, describing the match as a brutal and one-sided evening after the Imps were reduced to nine men early on. Tom Hamer was sent off after just 160 seconds, and Conor McGrandles followed with a red card later in the opening half-hour, leaving Lincoln facing a major task against a West Ham team with far greater squad depth and Premier League experience.
West Ham eventually broke through just before half-time through Konstantinos Mavropanos, then added five more after the interval. Edvin Austbo, Jarrod Bowen, Pablo, and Tomas Soucek, who scored twice, completed the rout. The result was Lincoln’s heaviest defeat of the season and ended a run of two away wins, while West Ham’s victory underlined the gap between a club with one of the Championship’s smallest budgets and a side that spent heavily on its squad.
Shaw, who shares Lincoln’s managerial duties with Chris Cohen, said the team could take lessons from dealing with difficult moments rather than letting the scoreline shape their season. He also defended both dismissed players, saying they would not let the club down. Lincoln, back in the second tier after a long absence, have already shown competitive spells this season, and Shaw said the club’s aim is to continue growing and to avoid being treated as an underdog identity for long.
